Modern photovoltaic (PV) systems produce good quantities of power and require very little maintenance. Grid tie solar inverters allow you to use the power from your system within your home, and send any excess back through the utility meter, allowing the meter to turn backwards reducing or eliminating your electric bill.  Federal and state incentives repay a large portion of the costs, and property tax credits in some areas make installing a PV system even more attractive. After a century of using incandescent lamps in the home that wasted around 90%(*) of the power they consumed heating the air, new compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s) and cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL’s) are revolutionizing home lighting. Standard replacement lamps and dimming fluorescent lamps that work well and offer plenty of cost savings are finally coming into production. Depending on how much lighting contributes to your energy cost, switching to high efficiency lamps can help save you a sizable amount from your electric bill! Good quality lamps also have life expectancies of up to 25000 hours, so you won’t be replacing burnt out lamps as often. Crum Electric has experience in installing fluorescent and LED lighting with good results.

Commercial Lighting

Have you noticed that many of the major retailers have replaced their HID fixtures with fluorescent lighting? Modern T8 and T5 fluorescent lighting can save up to 50% of your lighting cost and can last as long as metal halide lamps. They also produce much less heat and save on air conditioning costs. Crum Electric has been involved in retrofits of existing buildings using T5 high efficiency lighting for over 5 years. We can provide lighting surveys and cost analysis to help you decide whether replacing your lighting is cost effective.
